The sprawling acreage properties along Manning Trail North in Grant give Washington County its signature rural character, where wide-open lawns meet heavy woodland borders. Having deep woods framing your lot gives you incredible natural privacy, but when wild brush and unmanaged undergrowth take over the tree line, you can lose dozens of feet of usable yard space before you even realize it. We took a call from a local homeowner who wanted to reclaim the eastern side of their property that had become completely choked out by wild underbrush.
The main headache on site was an aggressive wall of dense undergrowth and wild hardwood saplings creeping across the eastern boundary line. Over time, the unmanaged growth had choked out the tree line, creating an eyesore, harboring pests, and making it impossible for the homeowner to access that side of their land. Trying to clear a thicket like that with hand tools would’ve taken forever and left giant piles of debris to haul off. Executing an efficient forestry mulching plan was the best way to open up the property line without turning the soil into a muddy rutted mess.
To tackle the thick brush without damaging the surrounding lawn or tearing up the soil, our crew brought out our tracked skid steer fitted with a high-performance forestry mulcher attachment. Tanner operated the loader along the eastern border, using the mulcher head to grind through the thickets and saplings in controlled passes right down to ground level. Where larger fallen branches and heavy wood were scattered under the canopy, our guys switched over to a grapple attachment to sort and process the heavy timber efficiently.
Grinding all that vegetation on site meant we didn’t have to drag heavy loads across the lawn or run haul-away trucks back and forth over the grass. The processed underbrush turned into a clean, uniform layer of organic mulch across the forest floor that naturally suppresses future weed growth and feeds nutrients back into the soil. We hand-raked along the edges, swept off the driveway, and left the eastern boundary wide open, bright, and completely usable for the homeowner.
