We’re always glad to head out this way because folks really appreciate their legacy timber and the privacy it brings. But when you’ve got massive native hardwoods and towering pines growing right next to modern homes, things can get tricky as those trees age. Once they reach the end of their lifespan, it doesn’t take much for a nice shade tree to turn into a major threat to your property.
On this job, Tanner stopped by to check on a massive White Oak and a mature Green Ash that were both in rough shape. Our specialist notes flagged the oak with a nasty lean right toward the homeowner’s roof, with heavy branches hanging over the house and a shared boundary fence. The Green Ash wasn’t doing any better—it was suffering from severe dieback and brittle wood hanging right over the local utility lines. You couldn’t just notch and drop trees this bad without wrecking the yard or ripping down wires, so Tanner put together a careful tree removal plan to dismantle them safely from the top down.
Taking down compromised trees in a tight backyard means we’ve got to use the right gear to protect the property. Before we even fired up a chainsaw, our crew laid down a continuous path of heavy-duty ground protection mats to make sure we didn’t leave any ruts in the pristine lawn. We brought in our Nifty Lift SD 64 to give our climber a rock-solid aerial platform to reach high into the canopy, letting us cut away heavy limbs without putting any extra weight on the rotting trunks. Down on the ground, our rubber-tracked skid steer used a grapple attachment to shuttle the logs out of the narrow yard without dragging anything across the grass.
Once the lift safely brought the last of the oak and ash down to the ground, the guys got right to work on the cleanup. They fed all the branches through our commercial chipper and flush-cut the stumps as low to the grade as possible so the homeowners could easily reclaim that space. Our loader stacked all the heavy logs straight into our grapple truck so the staging area stayed completely clear. We hauled every bit of wood away to be recycled into landscape mulch, raked the yard until it was totally spotless, and blew off the driveway. It’s always a great feeling leaving a property knowing we’ve removed a huge threat to a neighbor’s home, and we’ll be back out in Marine whenever they need us.
